Benefits of Walking with Poles

Last night a few of us went out for a walk but this just wasn’t a ordinary walk, we were walking with poles! Yes, walking with poles!  If you’ve seen people walking with poles you maybe wondered “why people would be walking with poles in the spring?” The reason why we walk with poles is because of all the health benefits plus it’s fun!   

Here are some of the health benefits of Nordic Walking:

  • increased overall body strength; including cores muscles and upper body
  • increase in heart rate
  • burn more calories than walking without poles
  • less stress on the hip, knee and ankles joints, due to the weight shifting to the upper body
  • effective weight bearing exercise: increasing total body bone density

If you’re interesting in join us for a walk, we go walking every Tuesday night at 7pm & Friday morning at 9:15am.
