Another Sunny Day in Vancouver!

Posted by energygroup on September 29, 2008

What’s happening with the weather here in Vancouver?  Last week Whistler Blackcomb sends an e-mail notifying everyone of the first snowfall and now it’s 20 degrees in Vancouver and Whistler!  What’s happening?

The great thing about the sunny weather is that is keeps people moving!  People want to get out and enjoy the warm weather.  My family and I were out at Stanley Park yesterday afternoon taking a walk through the woods along with so many other families.   We saw people rollerblading, riding bikes and just wondering around.  Moving, at any pace, is great for the body.  When you’re moving your stimulating blood flow, increase heart rate and wight bearing on the bones.  Of course if you’re looking to improve your fitness you need to challenge your body and push yourself further then where you are right now.

On Sunday morning Energy Group Fitness had a sneak preview class for Group CENTERGY.   We had a great turn out for a sunny day!  Our members pushed & challenged themselves passed their own personal limits.  Each member went away from class with a feeling of being stretched, challenged and relaxed. Group CENTERGY is a unique mix of Yoga and Pilates set to up-lifting music, group dynamics and supportive instructors.

Energy Group Fitness official launch’s Group CENTERGY on Sunday October 5th at 10:45am.  Please join us!

Have a great sunny day!

Cheers, Angie

Did we miss Fall in WHISTLER BLACKCOMB?

Posted by energygroup on September 24, 2008

Yesterday I received an e-mail from WHISTLER BLACKCOMB – it snowed! On Sept 22 the mountain got 6cm! Did you get the same e-mail and did it make you want to dust your skiies off?  I can’t wait to hit the slopes!

If you’re a skier and what to make the most out of the season it’s time to think about your fitness routine! With WHISTLER BLACKCOMB opening on November 27, only 8 weeks away, it time to get moving!  Group POWER® is a fantastic fitness training program for skiing.  In class we do high repetition (endurance) which will help you keep going on the slopes.  We do a full body workout out so your body will be used to working hard.  Remember last year how you felt after your first day of skiing!  Just thinking back there’s a member at the studio who told me last year that after her first day of skiing she wasn’t sore and she out lasted her husband on the hill!  She says it from doing Group POWER twice a week!

For a sneak preview check out our website.  Feel free to join us for a FREE class!

Have a great day!

Group POWER® Fall 08 Release

Posted by energygroup on September 16, 2008

It’s hard to believe we’re getting close to Fall.  I’ve been hearing from friends and members “where did the summer go?” Yes, where did it go?  Our schedules tend to get a little out of wack during the summer months with the long bright days and no school!  Good thing fall roles around to get us back into routine or on a schedule!  If it’s time for you to get back into a fitness routine – think of Energy Group fitness.  We’ve got lots coming up in October.

For us at Energy Group fitness Fall (October) means another release is coming out!  Yes 3 months since we released Group POWER Summer 08.  October 5th at 9:30am is the Fall 08 release!  It’s jammed packed with great music and new moves!  I love new releases – it feels like you have a fresh start and can get back on track or e-organized.  For our members, I’m sure you’ll love this release!  If you’re new to Energy Group fitness we release new music & routines every 3 months.  This makes sure we are always challenging ourselves and we don’t get bored!  For more about our classes, check out our website at www.energygroupfitnes.ca.  You’ll also be able to see a preview of the Group POWER class.  If you’re thinking starting or changing your strength training program – come check our our class!  The first class is FREE but we encourage a donation to the Heart & Stoke Foundation.

See you at class!

Enjoy this Sun!

Cheers, Angie

Finding the time to blog

Posted by energygroup on September 12, 2008

In my first blog I mentioned I didn’t know if I had the TIME to commit to writing this blog, but I actually do!  I have to make the time.   I’ve set my goal to write in this blog 3 times per week for the next 4 weeks.  After the 4 weeks I’ll re-asses the goal to see what worked and what didn’t.  I can then set myself a new goal!

How did I come up with 3 days per week for 4weeks? I asked myself what could I REALISTICALLY commit to given my current schedule?  Where could I fit this in?  I went through my schedule and found places where I could sit down and write.  I went one step further and blocked out the time. I then knew that I was busy and could not plan anything else to do!  I also wanted to set myself up for success and decided 3 days is very REALISTIC.  I could have added another day or 2 but what I really didn’t want to set myself up for failure.  What’s nice about this goal is I can always add another day if I want to knowing I have already achieved my goal!

How does my blogging relate to fitness?  Basically the same way.  We tell ourselves we don’t have the TIME to exercise but we actually do.  We just need to find the time in your schedule and then block out that time.  You can find 10 minute blocks or 30 minutes whatever suits your schedule.  Decide what you goal is.  It’s very important to have a goal to work towards.  If you don’t have the goal then it’s easier to go our for dinner with friends then for a workout!  Once you’ve got your goal make sure it’s REALISTIC.  If you’re just starting a fitness program start with say 3 days per weeks for 30 minutes instead of 5 days per week for 1 hour.  You’ll more like succeed when starting off slower.  there are reasons for this 1) your mind & body may not be ready for 5 days a week.  You’ll start off really great for the first few weeks then you’ll find yourself getting tired and unmotivated, then you’ll start to miss days, then start to feel bad that you missed a day then all of a sudden you’re not doing anything and back a the beginning!  Another reason…the fitness program/ exercises that you start with may not be what you really enjoy doing.   You may think going to a gym is the only way to get fit but really you like to walk outside and enjoy the fresh air! The best way to stay committed to a program is to do something you truly enjoy doing and then it won’t feel like a chore or that you’re missing out on other things.  By starting out slowly you’ll get a chance to see and feel what’s the best program for YOU!  Like my blogging if you set yourself up for 3 days and do 4 that’s even better.   This also gives you an indication if you can do more days when you reset your goal!

Happy goal setting!

Angie
